Undergraduate
Certificate Program
ASU’s new Religion and Conflict Certificate provides
students a broad, interdisciplinary understanding of the dynamics
of religion, conflict, and peace by
exploring questions such as
these: What are the religious and non-religious causes of conflict or factors
that contribute to it? What do we mean by the term “religious violence”?
What secular and religious resources exist for resolving different kinds of
conflict? The certificate is open to students in any major, and may be of particular
interest for students pursuing careers in journalism, law, policy work, diplomacy,
the military,
public advocacy,
publishing,
education, ministry, or other fields in which an enhanced understanding of
religion and conflict is increasingly vital.
Undergraduate
Fellows
As part of the Center's mission to serve as a research hub that
fosters exchange and collaboration across the university, the undergraduate
research fellows program focuses on providing a rich interdisciplinary
atmosphere for student development. Students accepted into the
program work directly with a faculty member on current research
projects involving religion and conflict. Fellows also have an
opportunity to meet with visiting scholars, attend special lectures,
compete for research, travel and conference funds, and qualify
for three credit hours and a scholarship of $500.
Courses
The Center has compiled a list of ASU course
offerings that engage issues of religion and conflict. The list is an on-going
project as courses are developed, added and dropped. The Center encourages suggestions
for ASU courses or programs that could be included.
Internships
The Center collaborates with a number of departments on campus that offer internship programs for credit, including the Honors College, the BIS program, the English Department’s Writing Certificate Program and Women’s Studies. Students are also welcome to perform voluntary internships. Please visit the Center's page on internships for more information.
Scholarships, Fellowships and Grants
The Center has compiled a list of organizations and foundations that provide research funding and assistance to both undergraduate and graduate students. This index is an ongoing project that includes resources offered at ASU and other external sources.
